Fencing in Chesterfield

When planning a new or replacement fence there are several factors that you should bear in mind.

See our fencing gallery.

Besides the look of the fence, account should be taken of the slope of the ground and the amount of wind that the fence will need to withstand. There are many fencing systems on the market today to suit everyones taste and budget and we at J S Discounts will be only to pleased to offer you all the impartial advice you need to make the right choice of fence to compliment your home.

Perhaps the simplest form of fencing is the wooden post and panel variety. The panels, usually 6 feet in length are nailed to a wooden post which has been securely concreted into the ground. This provides a sturdy fence that should last many years if treated annually with a good quality fence treatment. The advent of the Metpost has dispensed with the need to dig holes and fill them with concrete to keep the post upright.

The most popular type of garden fencing to appear in recent years has been the concrete post and plinth fence in which a concrete plinth is slotted in between two concrete slotted posts and a wooden panel is slotted on top. This type of fence is not much more difficult than a wooden fence to erect and certainly looks very impressive. Also, because that enemy of all wooden fences, water, is kept away from the wooden panel it means the life of the panel is extended, well justifying the extra cost of this type of fence over the plain wooden one.

Another advantage of this type of fence is that annual maintenance is simplified as the panels can be lifted from between the posts and either sprayed flat or dipped.
